A Rain Curtain - or a Precipitation Shaft (to use the official meteorological term), is a weather phenomenon, visible from the ground at large distances from the storm system, as a dark vertical shaft of heavy rain, hail, or snow, generally localized over a relatively small area. For some reason, I'm crazy about them. I think they are so beautiful.  The Rain Curtain seen here is falling over New Jersey.

This photo is almost identical to "Rain Curtain Approaching Manhattan (6)" But I love how close up the buildings are in this photo and how massive the rain curtain looks, as though it's a huge wave about to crash on the city. Behind the buildings, on the opposite side of the Hudson River (of which you can see a teeny sliver in the center of the photo, between two buildings) is Edgewater New Jersey, and in the distance, you can see the Kittatinny Mountains of Northern New Jersey.
