A Rain Curtain - or a Precipitation Shaft (to use the official meteorological term), is a weather phenomenon, visible from the ground at large distances from the storm system, as a dark vertical shaft of heavy rain, hail, or snow, generally localized over a relatively small area. For some reason, I'm crazy about them. I think they are so beautiful! The Rain Curtain seen here is falling over New Jersey.

This photo shows the North meadow, the North Meadow Ball Fields, the Upper West Side of Manhattan as well as Central Park North and Harlem on the right of the image. St Nicholas Avenue is the road you see on the right, that looks as though it's leading to the George Washington Bridge. You can also see a bit of the Conservatory Garden on the lower right side.
