A Rain Curtain - or a Precipitation Shaft (to use the official meteorological term), is a weather phenomenon, visible from the ground at large distances from the storm system, as a dark vertical shaft of heavy rain, hail, or snow, generally localized over a relatively small area. For some reason, I'm crazy about them. I think they are so beautiful! The Rain Curtain seen here is falling over New Jersey.

This photo shows the North meadow, the North Meadow Ball Fields, the Upper West Side of Manhattan with the Eldorado Towers and the Central Park Tennis Center all the way on the left, a bit of the Conservatory Garden on the lower right corner, and some of Central Park North and West Harlem on the right, with a portion of the George Washington Bridge visible on the right side as well.
